Rock The Trend: Bold Lips

You’ve almost definitely dipped your toe into the bold lip water by wearing a red lip before, but how would you feel about trying out more of a striking shade? Gothic hues and brilliant brights don’t need to be intimidating. We got 5 normal girls to try out the statement lip wardrobe, from brown to blue and (almost) everything in between.

Look 1: Dark and Dangerous

Brown lipstick has wormed its way back into the spotlight over the past few months, after being famed by celebrities such as the infamous beauty trendsetter Kylie Jenner and supermodel Gigi Hadid. Too Faced’s Chocolate Cherries lipstick has a satin finish and packs a 90’s inspired brown punch whilst still looking up to date. Pair your brown lip with a natural, matte eye for a modern take on the old school trend.

Look 2: Bold ‘n’ BlueIMG_1789

Who knew that girl from Avatar was such a beauty muse? If you’re attending a festival this summer, keep your eyes minimal and let your lips do the talking. We used Kiko Ocean Blue to give Kate a matte, cobalt look.

Look 3: Fierce in FuchsiaIMG_1801 copy

Pink is no longer just reserved for the Barbie girls out there. MAC’s nearly neon Candy Yum Yum paired with a subtle eyeliner flick gives the kind of ‘cool girl’ statement that looks badass both day and night.

Look 4: Obscenely OrangeIMG_1805

Nothing screams ‘here comes the sun’ quite like orange lipstick. Keep the eyes bare except for a few lashings of mascara, fill in your brows, add some highlighter to your cheekbones and finish your face off by using a brush to apply a few thin layers of Urban Decay’s Bang Lipstick for this year’s hottest summer look. Orange is the new red, don’t you know?

Look 5: Black is BackIMG_1807

Does anything look more fierce than black lipstick? The Addams family vibe need not only be reserved for October 31st, if you have the guts to rock the gothic look all year round then we say go for it. Surprisingly, a black kohl liner such as Collection’s Twist Up in Black can work brilliantly as a lip pencil as long as the formula is waxy enough.

Look 6: Rock Chick RedIMG_1848

Matte red lipstick will never go out of style. Teamed with statement winged eyeliner, it’s the most iconic makeup look out there. We used the blue toned MAC Ruby Woo on Abbie, and the Retro Matte formula of this product means that it sticks around even after the greasiest of cheeseburgers.
