One of the pioneers of the big brow. With that sleek hair, side fringe and classic beauty style, Hepburn is timelessly chic.

3.Elizabeth Taylor

Striking dark locks and strong brows are instantly recognisable as being part of the Elizabeth Taylor look, and there’s no doubt that Cleopatra is the queen of the geometric cat eye. She inspired that feline flick that we still know, love, and struggle to perfect today!

4. Madonna

Perfect hair went out of the window when this Material Girl arrived, to be replaced by the curled ‘do that became an essential part of the Madonna look. Who could forget that beauty mark? The Queen of Pop is a true beauty chameleon, her style has chopped and changed throughout her career but the blonde locks always remain. Thank you for being such a beauty revolutionary, Madonna, we kohl-dn’t imagine the 80’s without you.

5. Twiggy

Talk about #lashgoals. The infamous 60’s eye look has continued to inspire beauty trends throughout the years. Bambi eyes never go out of style, and with the popularity of falsies continually rising, it seems we’re always going to want our lashes to be bigger and better.

6. Amy Winehouse

When you type ‘beehive hair winged eyeliner’ into Google Images, it’s hardly surprising that you’re immediately hit with hundreds of photos of the legendary Amy Winehouse. It’s amazing how much more confident one can feel with a black flick along their upper lash line. You’ve left such a legacy, Amy. Not only did your voice raise the hair on our arms, but your beehive defied gravity.

7. Frida Kahlo

Obviously Frida’s work as a phenomenal feminist artist is the most important thing here, but in the (slightly less serious) world of eyebrows, her untameable pair were seriously kick-ass. Step aside, Cara D.

8. Tina Turner

Turner was the original ‘big hair, don’t care’. The extra volumised style that comes back into fashion every few years always pays homage to this star’s insanely amazing lion’s mane in some way. We seriously doubt any human has ever had such a good relationship with a backcomb brush as Tina did during her prime.

9. Marie Antoinette 

Porcelain perfection. Nothing screams ‘Antoinette’ like milk bottle skin with a flush of pink on the cheeks and hair so white that it’s almost silver. We can thank this Queen of France for creating a striking beauty look that has inspired countless catwalk shows over the years, from Chanel to Alexander McQueen.

10. Brigitte Bardot

Has anyone ever had hair as good as Bardot? We don’t think so. The mod style is currently just as fashionable as it was back in her heyday, and if some hairdresser could help us achieve that flawlessly tousled style that Brigitte Bardot is so famous for, that would be awesome – thanks.
